Honouring the scholars, virtue of honouring them, and warning against insulting and dishonouring them.
Hadith 62:
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) shrouded every two martyrs of Uhud in one piece of cloth and then he would ask, “Which of them knew more Qur’an?” When one of them was pointed out he would put him first in the grave***. He said, “I am a witness on these.” Then he ordered them to be buried with blood on their bodies. Neither did he offer their funeral prayer nor did he get them washed. (Jabir bin `Abdullah added): Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) used to ask about the martyrs of Uhud as to which of them knew more of the Qur’an.” And when one of them was pointed out as having more of it he would put him first in the grave and then his companions. (Jabir added): My father and my uncle were shrouded in one sheet.

Hadith 63:
Narrated AbuMusa al-Ash’ari:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Glorifying Allah involves showing honour to a grey-haired Muslim and to one who can expound the Qur’an, but not to one who acts extravagantly regarding it, or turns away from it, and showing honour to a just ruler.

Hadith 64:
On the authority of Ibn Abbas, that indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Al-Barakah is with your seniors.

Hadith 65:
On the authority of Abdullah ibn Amr that it was conveyed to us by the Prophet ﷺ that: He is not one of us who doesn’t have mercy upon our young ones and knows the rights of our elders.

Hadith 66:
On the authority of Ubadah bin As-Samit that verily the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He is not from my Ummah who doesn’t- honour our elders and shows mercy upon our young ones, and (doesn’t) know the rights of our scholar.

Warning against seeking knowledge for other than pleasing Allah.
Hadith 67:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If anyone acquires knowledge that should be sought seeking the Face of Allah, but he acquires it only to get some worldly advantage, he will not experience the arf, i.e. the fragrance, of Paradise.

Hadith 69:
Ka’b ibn Malik reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever seeks knowledge to impress the scholars, to argue with the foolish, or to attract the attention of people, Allah will admit him into Hellfire.”

Hadith 70:
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: A continuous charity, knowledge by which people derive benefit, pious son who prays for him.”

Hadith 72:
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Mas’ud al-Ansari who said:
A man came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: My riding beast has been killed, so give me some animal to ride upon. He (the Holy Prophet) said: I have none with me. A man said: Messenger of Allah, I can guide him to one who will provide him with a riding beast. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.

Hadith 73:
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
He who called (people) to righteousness, there would be reward (assured) for him like the rewards of those who adhered to it, without their rewards being diminished in any respect. And he who called (people) to error, he shall have to carry (the burden) of its sin, like those who committed it, without their sins being diminished in any respect.

Hadith 74:
– عن عليٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عنه في قولِه تعالى: {قُواأَنْفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نارًا} [التحريم: ٦]، قال: عَلِّمُواأهليكمُ الخيرَ
On the authority of ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) that he said about the statement of Allah: {Save yourselves and your familes from the hell fire}. He said: Teach your families Al-Khair (The Quran and Sunnah).

Warninh People Who Hide Knowledge
Hadith 75:
Narrated AbuHurayrah:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: He who is asked something he knows and conceals it will have a bridle of fire put on him on the Day of Resurrection.

Hadith 76:
On the authority of Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The similitude of the one who has learnt knowledge but does not spread it, is like that of a person who has gathered great wealth but does not spend from it.

Not Acting Upon One’s Knowledge And Acting Differently From What One is Preaching.
Hadith 77:
Zaid bin Arqam said that the Prophet ﷺ used to say:
اللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أَعُوذُ بكَ مِن عِلْمٍ لا يَنْفَعُ، وَمِنْ قَلْبٍ لايَخْشَعُ، وَمِنْ نَفْسٍ لا تَشْبَعُ، وَمِنْ دَعْوَةٍ لا يُسْتَجابُ لَها.
The entire Hadith:
Zaid b. Arqam reported:
I am not going to say anything but only that which Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upgn him) used to say. He used to supplicate:” O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from incapacity, from sloth, from cowardice, from miserliness, decrepitude and from torment of the grave. O Allah, grant to my soul the sense of righteousness and purify it, for Thou art the Best Purifier thereof. Thou art the Protecting Friend thereof, and Guardian thereof. O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the knowledge which does
not benefit, from the heart that does not entertain the fear (of Allah), from the soul that does not feel contented and the supplication that is not responded.”

Hadith 78:
Usama bin Zaid said, “I have heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, “A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown in the (Hell) Fire, so that his intestines will come out, and he will go around like a donkey goes around a millstone. The people of (Hell) Fire will gather around him and say: O so-and-so! What is wrong with you? Didn’t you use to order us to do good deeds and forbid us to do bad deeds? He will reply: Yes, I used to order you to do good deeds, but I did not do them myself, and I used to forbid you to do bad deeds, yet I used to do them myself.” (Part of Sahih Al-Bukhari 3267, Sahih Muslim 2989)
Hadith 79:
The Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wasallam) also said in a hadith, “During the night of my ascension, I passed by a group of people. Their lips were being severed with scissors of fire. I said, “O Jibreel (alaihis salam)! Who are these people?” He said, “They are the preachers from your Ummah that would say other than what they would do”. (Reported by Ahmad in his Musnad, 3/120, 231, and 239; Ibn Hibban and others.)

Hadith 81:
Ibn Mas’ud narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:
“The feet of the son of Adam shall not move from before his Lord on the Day of Judgement, until he is asked about five things: about his life and what he did with it, about his youth and what he wore it out in, about his wealth and how he earned it and spent it upon, and what he did with what he knew.”

Hadith 82:
On the authority of Luqman- i.e. Ibn ‘Aamir- who said: Abu Darda would say, “Indeed I fear from my Lord that He will call me on the Day of Judgement from amongst the heads of the creation and will say to me: Oh Uwaymir! I will say: In you presence O Lord! He (Allah) will say: How much did you act upon what you had learnt?”.

Hadith 83:
Jundub bin Abdullah Al-Azdi, the companion of the Prophet, narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
The example of the one who teaches the people Al-Khair (Goodness, beneficial knowledge) and forgets himself, is like a lamp, which spread light to the people but burns itself.
