أسلم أبو طلحة زيد بن سهل بن الأسود بن حرام بن عمرو بن زيد مناة بن عدي بن عمرو بن مالك بن النجار قبل بيعة العقبة الثانية، حين ذهب لخطبة أم سليم بنت ملحان بعد وفاة زوجها أبو أنس بن مالك، فقالت: «يا أبا طلحة، ما مثلك يُردّ، ولكنك امرؤ كافر، وأنا مسلمة لا تحلّ لي، فإن تسلم فذلك مهري»، فأسلم، فكان ذلك مهرها.

Abu Talhah Zaid bin Sahl bin Al-Aswad bin Haraam bin ‘Amr bin Zaid Manath bin ‘Adi bin ‘Amr bin Malik bin An-Najjaar, he accepted Islam before the ‘Second Pledge of Al-‘Aqabah’. After the death of Umm Sulaim bint Milhaan’s husband- the father of Anas bin Malik (Malik bin An-Nadr), he sent her a proposal of marriage.
She said, “O Abu Talhah! The likes of aren’t rejected, but you are a disbeliever, and I am a Muslimah and I am not permissible for you (in marriage), if you accept Islam then that is my Mahr (dowry).”
He accepted Islam, and that became her Mahr.
