Question to Shaikh Abdul Waris Athari Madani (Shirur, Karnataka, India):
Shaikh what is the ruling on women tieing their hair up like a bun while offering salah at home, like the Hadith which speaks about the women who’ll make their hair like that of the Bukht camels (camel hump style Hijab)?
Shaikh: The Prophet ﷺ forbade this hairstyle for women generally- In Salah or outside Salah, in the house or outside the house. This is a general prohibition.
Questioner: Ustadh even at home…?
Shaikh: Yes even at home it’s not allowed, some women raise their hair like a bun during and after a bath even that’s not allowed. The Hadith says… “Their heads are likened to the humps of camels..”
Questioner: Ok Shaikh. Jazakallahu Khairan kaseera. I will transcribe this into English and spread it?
Shaikh: Ok.

The Hadith:
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) having said this:
Two are the types of the denizens of Hell whom I did not see: people having flogs like the tails of the ox with them and they would be beating people, and the women who would be dressed but appear to be naked, who would be inclined (to evil) and make their husbands incline towards it. Their heads would be like the humps of the bukht camel inclined to one side. They will not enter Paradise and they would not smell its odour whereas its odour would be smelt from such and such distance. (Sahih Muslim 2128)
