It is very sad to see Muslims -and even Muslim scholars- using the weakest and frailest ‘scientific’ argument to support Islamic Fiqh. Some of these are just fake tabloid news.
The mention of a ‘so called reserarch’ that purportedly showed that women “retain and carry living DNA from every man with whom they have sexual intercourse”, was widely used by Islamic preachers in Masajid to prove the importance of the Iddah (waiting) period for Muslim women.
It was said that it takes 3 months to clear the divorced women of her ex-husband’s sperm-imprint and 4 months and 10 days for a widowed woman since she’s in a state of depression! Lo! So The Quranic time period of Iddah is just perfect scientifically!
After one Madrasa Graduate and Imam mentioned this very confidently in the Dars after Fajr, I went upto him and asked him, “What about the women who was seperated by Khula (divorce intiated by a woman, with only 1 month Iddah) ? Is she purified in one month by the so-called sperm imprint?” He was just speechless and blank! The contradiction opened up to him, Alhamdulillah.
I then reminded him that though all rulings of Islam have a Hikmah (wisdom), it’s not necessary that we realize them all in this life itself. All of our belief in the Islamic rulings is based on Revelation (Qur’an and Sunnah) and belief in them is obligatory whether the Hikmah is apparent or not.
If you keep using science to defend yourself, that too based on heresay, you’ll just fill your mind with contradictions once someone points it out and you will shame yourself and your Deen. Allah’s Help is Sought.
