A piece of history from the life of Tipu Sultan (رحمة الله عليه)…
Some of the Salaf said (as a teacher of mine narrated) that- A believers true dream may be misinterpreted by him, but the true dream will not decieve him (or harm him negatively).
Tipu Sultan saw a dream sometime before his martyrdom that he was fasting in the dream and Nabi ﷺ gave him three dates to break his fast. When Tipu Sultan woke up he (wrongly) interpreted it as his victory over the Marathas, Nizams and the British. (1/n) (You can find this dream recorded in his dreams which he used to write down and are available on online history sites.)
Thus after that dream Tipu Sultan firmly decided not to compromise with the British and their allies (Marathas and Nizams).
Finally, in his last Battle of Srirangapatna, it is said that he was fasting that day. When he heard that the British had entered the fort walls, he went to stop them at one of the gates. He fought bravely till he was shot ‘three bullets’ in his private part, chest and head, and he was martyred. (And thus the dream came true with its correct interpretation.) (2/n)
May Allah have mercy upon him.
