Is the book Ar-Raheequl-Makhtoum of Shaikh Mubarakpuri Rahimahullah wholly authentic?

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem.

Alhamdulillah, Nahmaduhu was Nusalli Ala Rasoolil-Kareem.

The book ‘Ar-Raheequl- Makhtoum’ (The Sealed Nectar) is a good summary of the Prophet’s Biography ﷺ.

The reason it was awarded by the World Muslim League (Makkah) was because it summarized the Seerah well. However the book has some weak and fabricated narrations.

Even Shaikh Safi-ur-Rehman Mubarakpuri Rahimahullah never claimed that his book is entirely authentic or based only on authentically confirmed reports.

In order to know about the unauthentic narrations in the book ‘The Sealed Nectar’, refer to the following books:

1. Taleeq Ala Ar-Raheeqil-Makhtoum by Shaikh Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Malaah in Arabic in one volume. In this book the Shaikh mentions some of the weak narrations in the ‘Sealed Nectar’.

2. ‘Ma Sha Wa Lam Yathbut Fis Seerah An-Nabawiyyah’ (Arabic) and translated and summarized into the English language as ‘Famous But Unauthentic Stories From The Seerah of The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’ (by Mohammed bin Thajammul Hussain Manna).

This book mentions around 110 famous but unauthentic narrations from the Seerah. Some of the fabricated and extremely weak narrations mentioned here are also found in Ar-Raheequl-Makhtoum.

May Allah reward all of us with Khair. Aameen.

How the Sahaba understood success!

الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله وعلى اله واصحابه اجمعين…

Haram bin Milhan (رضي الله عنه) was sent as an envoy of the Prophet ﷺ with a letter to Amir bin At-Tufayl, the disbelieving chief of Banu Amir. Amir did not read the message but rather as the letter was being read, he ordered a man to stab Haram bin Milhan with a spear from the back. As the spear came out from the other end of his chest, Haram bin Milhan gathered the blood in his cupped palms and said, before he breathed his last….
الله اكبر!
فزت ورب الكعبه!
“Allahu Akbar! I have become successful! By The Lord of The Kabah!”

Can Muslim women ride bikes and motorcycles?

السلام عليكم ورحمه الله وبركاته

الحمد لله والصلاه والسلام على رسول الله وعلى اله واصحابه اجمعين ومن تبعهم باحسان الى يوم الدين اما بعد…

A sister sent me this question which was asked to Sheikh Assim Al Hakeem hafidhahullah and she asked me to comment on that.

(The) QUESTION: It is not permissible for women to ride bike amongst nonmehrarn, but can she sit behind her male mahram on bike?

ANSWER: This is not permissible as this is dangerous for her to get exposed if she were to fall and also her body curves would be “too visible”. End Quote from Shaikh Assim Al-Hakeem.

We will be referencing three Ahadith:

Hadith 1:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The best women are the riders of the camels and the righteous among the women of Quraish. They are the kindest women to their children in their childhood and the more careful women of the property of their husbands.” (Al-Bukhari 5082)

Hadith 2:

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

We were in the company of the Prophet (ﷺ) while returning from ‘Usfan, and Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) was riding his she-camel keeping Safiya bint Huyay riding behind him. His she-camel slipped and both of them fell down. Abu Talha jumped from his camel and said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! May Allah sacrifice me for you.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Take care of the lady.” So, Abu Talha covered his face with a garment and went to Safiya and covered her with it, and then he set right the condition of their shecamel so that both of them rode, and we were encircling Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) like a cover. When we approached Medina, the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “We are returning with repentance and worshipping and praising our Lord.” He kept on saying this till he entered Medina. (Al-Bukhari 3085)

Hadith 3:

On the authority of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

Verily Allah has pardoned [or been lenient with] for me my ummah: their mistakes, their forgetfulness, and that which they have been forced to do under duress. A hasan hadeeth related by Ibn Majah, and al-Bayhaqee and others. (Arbain An-Nawawi)

Quran:”And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears”. (Quran 24:31)

Points:

The Ahadith I shared show the mistakes in Ustadh Assim Al-Hakeem’s answer:

  1. One of the ‘virtues’ of Qurayshi women was that they rode camels. This shows that riding an animal for women is a ‘virtue’ not something Haram.
  2. There’s no Ayah or Hadith that clearly states that riding animals for women is Haram.
  3. The second Hadith alludes to the fact that even though women can fall from camels, that doesn’t disallow them from riding on them.
  4. Women may ‘accidentally’ become uncovered and this not something they can avoid. (Hadith 3)
  5. Women in the times of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ would ride on camels in the presence of men mahram and non-mahram. (Hadith 2)
  6. Women should try their best not to show their curves, but if even after trying their best, i.e. following the proper Hijab, making it loose, opaque etc., if their ‘curves’ are shown they’re forgiven for that as it is something they can’t go out of the way and hide. (See Quran 24:31)

7. So as long as Muslim women wear an appropriate Hijab according to the Quran and Sunnah and they’re generally safe in the place where they’re riding, it is allowed in the Shariah for them to ride on bikes and motorcycles.

Shaykh Al Albani On Women Driving

Questioner: Is it permissible for a woman to drive a car?

Answer:If it is permissible for her to ride upon a (female) donkey then it is permissible for her to drive a

Questioner: But there is a difference between a donkey and a car.

Sh Al-Albaanee: Which is more concealing – riding upon a donkey or in a car? I would suggest (riding in) a car.

Moulana Makki Al-Hijazi (Hanafi) on women driving:

The Vacance of Pondering!

Visited a river bank on a vacance,
Saw the beauty of Allah’s creation was in a trance!

‘Twas not even a millionth fraction of Paradise,
Something that none will reject from the wise!

Played long time yet still didn’t want to leave it,
If you don’t believe go then do see it!

What Paradise, what view the believer will see?
He will childishly then think none is more glee than me!

The river was shining puro and misty was the morn,
Looked like it was a damsel in the deep woods forlorn!

What makes man reject his Creator?
The Beginner, The Sustainer, The Life Terminator!

The rebelde atheist refuses to submit,
He mocks the believer ‘a foolish hermit’!

Ponder ponder on the miracles around you,
Yonder yonder your tiny eyes will debasedly turn to you!

The one who refused to surrender,
He is then soon a beast render!

Accept The Almighty and hopes keep,
This life is short and the grave is deep…

This life is a dream,
And will go down a stream,

Death is the truth- final unprotested,
Do not fail with evil while being tested!

Accept The Words of Allah and you’ll be His servant,
Obey Muhammad, brother of Jesus the reverent!

This will take you to better than what I saw,
Of the river bank, its pebbles, climated for thaw!

Those who’ll miss Paradise will surely regret,
After the bad end there’s only to fret!

Glad tidings to the Muslims of Paradise,
A million times better than what imagined our eyes!

Can we share quotes of the Prophet/Sahaba from unknown sources without knowing their authenticity?

Allah says in The Quran (49:6): O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.

1. Allah instructs the Muslims to verify every information that they get before spreading it to others. (Al-Quran 49:6)

2. With regards to sharing false news false Ahadith of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), the Messenger of Allah said: “Do not lie upon me; indeed whoever lies upon me will enter the Fire“. (Sahih Muslim 1, also in Sahih Al-Bukhari)

3. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) clarified in many Ahadith that he hated the one who lies. ‘A’ishah (رضي الله عنها) said: No characteristic was more hateful to the Messenger of Allah than lying. (Part of a Hadith from At-Tirmidhi 1973, Sahih(Al-Albani)).

4. A Muslim should beware of lying even in a single statement.

Umar ibn Al-Khattāb (رضي الله عنه) said:‘It is enough of a lie for a man that he narrates everything he hears’. (Sahih Muslim 9)

An- Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said concerning this and similar hadiths:

This is a warning not to speak of everything that one hears, for usually a person hears things that are true and things that are false, so if he were to speak of everything that he hears, he would be telling lies, because he would be telling of something that did not happen.

End quote from Sharh Saheeh Muslim (1/75

5. People who narrate everything that they hear are in fact liars according to the verdict of the Messenger of Allah. Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) said:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “It is enough for a man to prove himself a liar when he goes on narrating whatever he hears.” (Sahih Muslim)

6. Muslim speakers or scholars who lie with regards to the Messenger of Allah or his companions are not worthy of being Imams of the Deen according to the words of Imam Malik.

Imam Mālik said: ‘Know that a man who relates everything he hears is not safe, and he can never be an Imām, as long as he narrates everything he hears’. (Sahih Muslim 10)

7. People started fabricating and making false narrations attributing them to Ali Ibn Abi Talib after his death and this was common knowledge among the scholars of Hadith that many narrations were falsely attributed to Ali (رضي الله عنه).

Hasan bin Alī al-Hulwānī narrated to us, Yahyā bin Ādam narrated to us, Ibn Idrīs narrated to us, on authority of al-A’mash, on authority of Abī Ishāq who said:

When they narrated these things after Alī, a man from the companions of Alī said: ‘May Allah curse them. Did they corrupt every [type of] knowledge!?’ (Sahih Muslim 24)

8. It is also not permissible to sit with storytellers and give them ears in order to listen to their admonitions if they are using false and unauthentic narrations.

Abū Kāmil al-Jahdarī narrated to us, Hammād- and he is Ibn Zayd- narrated to us, he said Āsim [bin Bahdalah] narrated to us, he said:

‘We would catch up with Abū Abd ar-Rahman as-Sulamī and at the time we were young men, so he would say to us: ‘Do not sit with story-tellers other than Abūl-Ahwas and beware of Shaqīq [Abū Abd ar-Rahīm]’. Imam Muslim said: ‘This Shaqīq held the view of the Khawārij and is not Abū Wā’il [Shaqīq bin Salamah, the righteous Tabi’ī]’.

9. Even if a Muslim is known to be righteous but it is known from him that he lies while narrating statements from the Prophet or the companions of the prophet then it is not permissible to listen to his Ahadith or narrations.

Hajjāj bin ash-Shā’ir narrated to me, Sulaymān bin Harb narrated to us, Hammād bin Zayd narrated to us, he said, Ayyūb said:‘Indeed I have a neighbor’ and he mentioned some of his virtues, [and continued] ‘…even if he testified to me about two dates I would not see his testimony(in narrations) as permissible’. (Sahih Muslim 61)

10. The above were a few simple proofs about not narrating and quoting from unknown sources. After this if anyone quotes from unknown sources, then we ask Allah to guide him and us to what is right. All we can do is only convey- Ultimate Guidance is with Allah The Most High.

واقول قولي هذا واستغفر الله لي ولكم. واخر دعوانا ان الحمد لله رب العالمين.
