Translation of the Hadith:

It was reported that the ruler of Yemen , appointed by the Persian emperor Kisra , sent two envoys
to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ !

When they came into his presence , he
noticed that they had shaved theirbeards and let their
moustaches grow big . Hating their ugly appearance , he turned his face away and said , ” Woe be to you , who told you to do so ? ”

They replied : “ Our lord ( Kisra ) did!” The Messenger ! responded : “ But my Lord , exalted and glorified be He , has commanded me to spare my beard
and trim my moustaches.”

[ Recorded by Ibn Jarir at
Tabari , Ibn Sa’d , and Ibn Bishran . Verified to be Hasan( good ) by Al – Albani ( Fiqh us – Sirah by al-Ghazali p . 359 ) ] (Translation taken from ‘Beard Between The Salaf and The Khalaf’ by Shaikh Muhammad Al-Jibaly in English.)

Strength of the above narrations:

والحاصل :
أن الحديث إنما يصح مرسلا .
وقد حسنه الشيخ الألباني رحمه الله في ” تخريج فقه السيرة ” (ص359) ، فلعله باعتبار تعدد طرقه ، وصحة إرساله من طريقين .
وقد ذكره غير واحد من أهل العلم في مصنفاتهم ، كشيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية وابن كثير وغيرهما .

The Ahadith above are Sahih Mursal (i.e. authentic till the Tabai [not till the Sahabi]).

And Shaikh Al-Albani graded this narration Hasan (acceptable) in his checking of Fiqh-us-Seerah (of Muhammad Al-Ghazali) (Arabic, p.359) because of considering its many chains and the strength of the Mursal narrations from two routes.

And more than one (many) from the people of knowledge mentioned this (story) in their books, like Shaikh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Katheer and other than them.

Conclusion: The above narration was related by a senior Tabai, ‘Abdullah ibn Shaddad and it has come via two Sahih Mursal routes, thus the narration is as Shaikh Al-Albani said- Hasan (acceptable)

Can we take knowledge from Nouman Ali Khan and Omar Sulaiman?

Brothers Nouman Ali Khan and Omar Sulaiman are liberals and moderates.

They rarely focuss on the Prophetic methodology of Dawah- i.e. focussing on Tawheed and eradicating Shirk and Bidah. This is their biggest problem.

Also- they’ve a tendency to hide/silently misinterpret Ahadith that do not fit the narrative of modern Islam .

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan doesn’t follow the Sahaba’s methodology in teaching the Quran. He focusses on Arabic language and grammar to explain the Quran rather than the classical method of interpreting the Quran from -the Quran-then Sunnah-then by Sahaba- then by Arabic language.

Added to that Brother Omar Sulaiman constantly uses weak and fabricated stories in his Tazkiyyah classes.

An Encouragement To Walk Towards The Masjid And Virtues Of Especially Walking To The Masjid At

Hadith 173:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The reward of the prayer offered by a person in congregation is twenty five times greater than that of the prayer offered in one’s house or in the market (alone). And this is because if he performs ablution and does it perfectly and then proceeds to the mosque with the sole intention of praying, then for every step he takes towards the mosque, he is upgraded one degree in reward and his one sin is taken off (crossed out) from his accounts (of deeds). When he offers his prayer, the angels keep on asking Allah’s Blessings and Allah’s forgiveness for him as long as he is (staying) at his Musalla. They say, ‘O Allah! Bestow Your blessings upon him, be Merciful and kind to him.’ And one is regarded in prayer as long as one is waiting for the prayer.”

(Sahih Al-Bukhari 647, Sahih Muslim 649.)

Hadith 174:

Uqbah bin ‘Aamir said that the Prophet ﷺ said:

If a man purifies himself, then he comes to the Masjid and offers the Salah, it will be recorded for him – for every step that he took towards the Masjid- ten Hasanaat (good deeds). And the one who remains in the Masjid waiting for the Salah is like a Qaanit (a devout worshipper), he will be written down from amongst the Musalleen (the people who are in prayer), from the time he left his house till he returns.

(Musnad Ahmad 4/157, Musnad Abu Yala Al-Mawsili 1747, Sahih Ibn Khuzaimah 1492, Sahih Ibn Hibban 2036, Sahih.)

Hadith 175:

On the authority of Abdullah ibn Amr who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

Whoever goes to the Masjid for the congregation (Salah), one step will erase his evil deeds and another will write for him a good deed, as he goes (to the Masjid) and returns (from it).

(Musnad Ahmad 2/172, Sahih Ibn Hibban 2037, Hasan.)

Hadith 176:

Sa’id ibn al-Musayyab said:

An Ansari was breathing his last. He said: I narrate to you a tradition, and I narrate it with the intention of getting a reward from Allah.

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: If any one of you performs ablution and performs it very well, and goes out for prayer, he does not take his right step but Allah records a good work (or blessing) for him, and he does not take his left step but Allah remits one sin from him. Any one of you may reside near the mosque or far from it; if he comes to the mosque and prays in congregation, he will be forgiven (by Allah).

If he comes to the mosque while the people had prayed in part, and the prayer remained in part, and he prays in congregation the part he joined, and completed the part he had missed, he will enjoy similarly (i.e. he will be forgiven). If he comes to the mosque when the people had finished prayer, he will enjoy the same.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 563, Hasan Li Ghairihi.)

Hadith 177:

Narrated Abu Qilabah:

from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “During the night, my Lord, Blessed is He, and Most High, came to me in the best of appearances.” He (one of the narrators) said – I think he said it was during a dream – “So he said: ‘O Muhammad! Do you know in what the most exalted group busy themselves with?'” He said: “I said: ‘No.'” He said: “So He placed His Hand between my shoulders, until I sensed its coolness between my breast.” – or he said: “on my throat, so I knew what was in the heavens, and what was in the earth. He said: ‘O Muhammad! Do you know in what the most exalted group busy themselves with?’ I said: ‘Yes, in the acts that atone: and the acts that atone are; lingering in the Masjid after the Salat, walking on the feet to the congregation, Isbagh Al-Wudu, in difficulty, and whoever does that, he lives in goodness and dies upon goodness, and his wrongs shall be like that of the day his mother bore him.’ He said: ‘O Muhammad! When you have performed Salat then say:

‘O Allah! Indeed I ask of You, the doing of good deeds, avoiding the evil deeds, and loving the poor. And when you have willed Fitnah for your slave, then take me to You, without making me suffer from Fitnah.'”

He [the Prophet (ﷺ)] said: “And the acts that raise ranks are spreading the Salam, feeding others, and Salat during the night, while the people are sleeping.”

(Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3233, 3234, Hasan Li Ghairihi.)

Hadith 178:

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

None of you performs Wudhu excellently and properly, then he comes to the Masjid, not desiring anything but praying therein, except that Allah Becomes Happy Upon Seeing him, just like the relatives of a person who had disappeared (or was absent because of travel) become happy upon his appearance.

(Sahih Ibn Khuzaimah 1491, Sahih.)

Hadith 179:

Jabir b. Abdullah reported:

There were some plots vacant around the mosque. Banu Salama decided to shift (to this land) and come near the mosque. This (news) reached the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he said to them (Banu Salama): I have received (information) that you intend to shift near the mosque. They said: Yes, Messenger of Allah, we have taken this decision. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: O Banu Salama, live in your houses, for your steps are recorded; live in your houses, for your steps are recorded.

(Sahih Muslim 665)

In another narration (Sahih Muslim 664)-

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade us (to do so) and said: There is for every step (towards the mosque) a degree (of reward) for you.

Hadith 180:

Narrated Abu Musa:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The people who get tremendous reward for the prayer are those who are farthest away (from the mosque) and then those who are next farthest and so on. Similarly one who waits to pray with the Imam has greater reward than one who prays and goes to bed. ”

(Sahih Al-Bukhari 651, Sahih Muslim 662.)

Hadith 181:

Ubayy b. Ka’b reported:

There was a man, and I do not know of any other man, whose house was farther than his from the mosque and he never missed the prayer (in congregation). It was said to him or I said to him: It you were to buy a donkey you could ride upon it In the dark nights and in the burning sand. He said: I do not like my house to be situated by the side of the mosque, for I (eagerly) desire that my steps towards the mosque and back from it, should be recorded when I return to my family. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Allah has gathered all (rewards) for you.

(Sahih Muslim 663a.)

Hadith 182:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “There is a (compulsory) Sadaqa (charity) to be given for every joint of the human body (as a sign of gratitude to Allah) everyday the sun rises. To judge justly between two persons is regarded as Sadaqa, and to help a man concerning his riding animal by helping him to ride it or by lifting his luggage on to it, is also regarded as Sadaqa, and (saying) a good word is also Sadaqa, and every step taken on one’s way to offer the compulsory prayer (in the mosque) is also Sadaqa and to remove a harmful thing from the way is also Sadaqa.”

(Sahih Al-Bukhari 2989, Sahih Muslim 1009.)

Hadith 183:

Abu Huraira reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Should I not suggest to you that by which Allah obliterates the sins and elevates the ranks (of a man). They (the hearers) said: Yes, Messenger of Allah. He said: Performing the ablution thoroughly despite odds, tranverside of more paces towards the mosque, and waiting for the next prayer after observing a prayer, and that is mindfulness (Ar-Ribat, staying on guard).

(Sahih Muslim 251, Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Sunan An-Nasai, Sunan Ibn Majah.)

Hadith 184:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Allah will prepare for him who goes to the mosque (every) morning and in the afternoon (for the congregational prayer) an honorable place in Paradise with good hospitality for (what he has done) every morning and afternoon goings.

(Sahih Al-Bukhari 662, Sahih Muslim 669.)

It was narrated that Sahl bin Sa’d As-Sa’idi said:

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Give glad tidings, to those who walk to the mosques in the dark, of perfect light on the Day of Resurrection.'”

(Sunan Ibn Majah 780, Sahih Ibn Khuzaimah 1498.)

Hadith 186:

Narrated AbuUmamah:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: If anyone goes out from his house after performing ablution for saying the prescribed prayer in congregation (in the mosque), his reward will be like that of one who goes for hajj pilgrimage after wearing ihram (robe worn by the hajj pilgrims).

And he who goes out to say the mid-morning (duha) prayer, and takes the trouble for this purpose, will take the reward like that of a person who performs umrah. And a prayer followed by a prayer with no worldly talk during the gap between them will be recorded in Illiyyun.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 558, Hasan.)

Hadith 187:

Abu Umamat Al Bahili reported the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) as saying “There are three persons who are in the security of Allaah, the Exalted.” “A man who goes out on an expedition to fight in the path of Allaah, the Exalted, is in the security of Allaah, until He takes him unto Him(i.e., he dies) and brings him into Paradise or brings him(alive) with reward and booty he obtains and a man who goes to the mosque is in the security of Allaah, until he takes him unto Him(i.e., he dies), and he brings him into Paradise or brings him with reward and spoils he obtains; and a man who enters his house after giving salutation is in the security of Allaah, the Exalted.”

(Sunan Abi Dawud 2494, Sahih.)

Hadith 188:

Salman narrated that indeed the Prophet ﷺ said:

Whoever does Wudhu in his house excellently, then comes to the Masjid, he is a guest of Allah. And it is the right (of the guest) upon the host- that the host honours the guest.

And then Jibreel came, and informed him, ‘The best places to Allah are the Masaajid, and the most hated places to Allah are the markets.’

(Musnad Ahmad 4/81, Mustadrak Al-Hakim 2/7, Hasan, Sahih.)
