Mujahid said, “I was with ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (Radi Allahu Anhuma) while his slave was skinning a sheep. He said, ‘Boy! When you finish, start with the Jewish neighbour.’ A man there exclaimed, ‘Jewish? May Allah correct you!’ He replied, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah (Salallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam), recommend that we treat our neighbours well until we feared (or we thought) that he would order us to make them our heirs.'”
(Al-Adab ul-Mufrad of Imam Al-Bukhari, Sahih (Al-Albani))
Imām al-Qurṭubī “I say: based on that, kind treatment of neighbours is enjoined and is recommended, whether they are Muslim or not. And this is the right thing to do. Kind treatment may be in the sense of helping or it may be in the sense of being kind, refraining from annoyance and standing by them.”
— al-Qurṭubī (translation from islamQA.info)
Practice: Whenever you purchase fruits or sweets, and Allah has granted you abundance, consider buying extra to share with your neighbors, regardless of their faith. There is no need to distribute to all of them at once — gifting gradually is perfectly acceptable regardless of the size of the gift. (authenticseerah.com)
